An Executive Position (or non-executive). You have a month or so to think about it. And, it’s really not that hard. “Elections” will be held at our Annual General Meeting on August 28.
While we call it an “Election” we are really just looking for “dedicated volunteers”. You don’t have to wait for someone to nominate you present you to the membership. If you think you can do a job on the board, talk to the President or Treasurer, or anyone on the executive and let them know you can give the club a hand. Then on Election night the membership can confirm the position. This speeds up our Election Night, and we can get get on with the rest of the business (munchies & coffee!).
In order for a club to keep from becoming stagnant and unexciting, it is really important that members volunteer for executive and non-executive positions. We need to have new ideas, thoughts, perspectives in order to keep the jobs fresh and satisfying, and keep our society running smoothly.
Yes, there is a learning curve–there always is with something new but in the end you have not only helped your club keep it’s mandates, you have made new friends and grown with the experience. Once more confident, it becomes easier.
The only real requirement is that you have to care and be willing to learn. We know we all want our society (club) to be around for another 50 years and keep having fun and learning together. If you have a particular skill or talent that’s useful, even better, and most appreciated!
If someone has been in a position for a long time, they would appreciate having a change. You will not hurt anyone’s feelings, and hey, maybe you can think of a way of doing things differently, so please volunteer!
